My mom just told me she used to cut.
What the fuck. I don't understand.
Her? How could she act the way she does towards me now if she used to do it too?
This is not real. This is not happening.
That's just rude, more if you consider that's coming from a person who self-harms and must know that even if this action has to do with getting attention, it always means more than that. I don't like her mother either, however, saying that is being unfair and falling into the use of the demeaning classification most self-harmers fight against.
I understand where you're coming from. The stereotype that self-harming is an entirely attention-seeking behaviour is irritating, ignorant, and demeaning.
However, it is a stereotype for a reason. Like it or not, there are many people out there who self-harm for the main purpose of getting attention. Although it is true that there has to be a larger issue for someone to feel the need to self-harm to get attention, it is nonetheless true that it happens.
This is coming from a self-harmer, and from someone that knows her mom [more than just what's on this blog]
I'm sorryif I offended you, it was not my intention, but thanks for answering anyway. On a whole different topic, I'm glad you've each other and hope both of you. You don't know it (and it is creepy) but I follow your recovery (of the two of you) and hope you can be truly happy with yourselves and together.
She was probably one of those people who did it for attention, or something.
